Hognose Snakes
Adults The body length of the hognose snake is usually about 60 centimeters, and the longest body length can reach 1 meter. Its body is relatively thick and short, its characteristics change color with the changes of nature, and there are large dark patterns on its back. The abdomen and tail are all white.
The original species is a short and fat species, and their bodies are much heavier than other yellow-jawed snakes of the same length. They have an aggressive, pointed snout used for digging and ridged scales. The body color of the original species is mostly dark yellow or brown with dark freckles. There are many large black areas on their abdomen and tail. The background color of the ventral surface of the original species is also dark yellow or tan, but sometimes different levels of orange appear. In contrast, the ventral surface and tail of the southern hognose snake (Heterodon simus) have a simple complexion and lack chromatin patches. As for eastern hognose snakes, their tails are lighter in color than their bellies. The newborns of Western Hognose Snakes are generally as long as adults, ranging from 13.9 to 20 cm in length.
